  7. Last month, our CD-ROM preparation software gave all the subdirectories
  8. two-character names. Because we were already so late with the CD, we did not
  9. have time to modify the software to change the names. We have made that
  10. change this month and the subdirectories are back to the old names (e.g.:
  11. COMMUNIC instead of CM). We apologize for any inconvenience this may have
  12. caused.

  17. The following is repeated from last month for the benefit of new subscribers:

  19. CREATE YOUR OWN FILES.BBS FILES:
  20. ===============================

  22. The Windows version of the CD-ROM access program has a new menu option which
  23. will let you generate customized FILES.BBS files.
  24.  
  25. You can specify the format of each entry, as well as how much information
  26. should appear in the descriptions: full description, first line only, author's
  27. name, ASP membership, and registration fee.
  28.  
  29. You can do one directory at a time or create FILES.BBS files for all
  30. subdirectories in a directory. In the latter case, individual files are
  31. created using the directory name as the FILES.BBS name (e.g.: DATABASE.BBS).

  33. One of the filtering options when creating the FILES.BBS files is whether to
  34. include all files regardless of permission required, or to include only those
  35. files which do not require permission to distribute, or to include files which
  36. give ASP BBSs advance permission to distribute.

  38. By doing one directory at a time and clicking on the Select button, you will
  39. see which files are being excluded by the permission option you choose. If you
  40. see a program you want to distribute, you can write the author of that program
  41. for permission.

  43. Unfortunately, we only started recording the permission requirements for
  44. programs a few months ago, so only the section of the month, such as Business
  45. on this CD, may have programs which require permission to distribute but which
  46. will not be culled out by the software. It is the responsibility of the Sysop
  47. to determine distribution requirements for the programs in the section of the
  48. month each month.

  54. July's problem with the Games FILES.BBS files illustrated to us the
  55. need to know the names and addresses of BBSs which are using the PSL CD-ROM.
  56.  
  57. So to enable us to reach you when problems arise and for our own control
  58. purposes, we now ask BBSs which use the PSL CD-ROM, our compilation of
  59. files, or our file descriptions, to sign up with us. We may also use this
  60. information in the future to produce a directory of BBSs.
